Becoming a member of St Albans & District Beekeepers offers many benefits to your beekeeping journey. Membership is open to everyone — even if you do not, or no longer, keep bees. We host open meetings at various times throughout the season at our apiaries, covering a range of topics. Additionally, we hold a couple of winter meetings at a local hall in St Albans. One of our popular events is an evening of honey tasting, where you’re welcome to enter a jar of honey (if your bees have produced enough to share). It’s a fun, informal event—not the level of competition you’d find at the National Honey Show—but a great opportunity to socialize with fellow beekeepers and enjoy a delightful evening. You might even leave on a high from all the honey tasting!
You’ll receive an invitation to join our Google Group, and you can register on our website to gain exclusive access to the members-only area and shop, as well as much, much more!
Our membership year runs from January 1st to December 31st. New membership applications close on July 1st and reopen on September 1st.
Full membership is for individuals who keep bees and includes Bee Disease Insurance (BDI) coverage for up to three colonies (additional coverage can be purchased if you have more than three).
Partner membership is available for households where both individuals are beekeepers. Instead of both joining as full members, one can register as a partner member, offering a savings of £17.50. Certain conditions apply to this membership type: both members must live at the same address, only one copy of the BBKA News Magazine will be provided, and Bee Disease Insurance (BDI) will only cover the full member. Therefore, it’s important to ensure all hives owned by both members are included under the full member's policy.
This membership is for those who support the work of the Association and have an interest in honey bees, but don’t keep bees themselves.
For under 18's, but they must be accompanied by a parent/guardian who are also a minimum of a country member when attending any association apiaries/events.
