  • Equipment Needed To Start Beekeeping

  • Personal Equipment
    • Bee Suit, Wellingtons or ankle boots
    • Gloves – Washing up (or 2 pairs of disposable) gloves and gauntlets work well
    • Smoker (including fuel and matches/BBQ lighter)
    • Hive tool

    14 x 12 Hive (or National Hive) and honey supers
    • Open mesh floor with varroa monitoring screen and entrance block
    • Brood chamber
    • Deep frames (Hoffman self spacing) and wired wax foundation
    • Queen excluder (framed wire type if possible)
    • Crown Board
    • Dummy Board
    • Roof
     
    • Nuc box (that will take the same size frames as your main brood box)
     
    • 2 supers (these are where the honey is stored)
    • Shallow frames and wired wax foundation for the supers

    Reserve Hive for Swarm Control
    • Only purchase the varroa floor, brood chamber with frames and wax, crown board and roof

    Other Equipment
    • Porter bee escapes (used for removing bees from the supers)
    • English feeder (or Ashforth feeder) and contact feeder
    • Mouse guard
